Bodhi Star Parent’s Reflection – AT Fritzie Vergel

In our homes, we parents teach the values of respect, kindness, thankfulness, and sincerity; but we most often forget to teach the virtue of harmony. In the Bodhi Star Camp, being a parent and an Assistant Teacher, I was reminded of the importance of harmony.

We parents always push our children to be the best at everything, to fight and be competitive. We get mad or sad when they lose. We argue with other parents if their children fight with ours. It is only our own egos that we satisfy. I was reminded that my child is not just MY child, he is the child of the community, he is the child of our nation, and even the child of the earth. It is not important that our children be the best, they need to learn to be good persons who can live harmoniously and peacefully with others.

Thank you Ocean Sky for helping us be better parents to our children!

Bodhi Star Reflection – Florian Deocareza

Today I learned we should respect everyone, do not judge others by their appearance, and practice respect with equality. I should also be compassionate to all people. I promise that I will try to understand the 10 virtues. ( Note: 1-Respect. 2- Compassion. 3- Harmony. 4- Sincerity. 5- Faith.6- Diligence. 7- Meditation. 8- Wisdom. 9- Thankfulness. 10- Bodhi.)

Bodhi Star Reflection – Justin Chua

I have attended several summer camps, but the Bodhi Star summer camp is nothing like the others. What made Bodhi Star so special are the assistant teachers (ATs), volunteers, and Shifus who were all friendly and made the activities fun. I especially liked the Mandarin class because I learned new words. I would like to thank all Shifus, ATs and volunteers for spending their time with us and for teaching me valuable life lessons.

Bodhi Star Reflection – Shanzy Angel P. Estrella

I have been a Bodhi star for 3 years now. Over these past three years, I have learned many things. I learned meditation, half bow and full bow. I also learned the Three Jewels are: Buddha- The enlightened one; Dharma- The teachings of Buddha; and Sangha- The community of Buddhist nuns and monks.

I also learned about Manjushri Bodhisattva, Manjushri Bodhisattva has perfect wisdom and perfect kindness. Manjushri is holding a sword in his right hand, and a lotus flower in his left hand; while riding on a lion. I learned from Manjushri not to take things that is not mine if I don’t want others to take my things. I learned martial arts, also learned songs like the Mandarin song. That is what I have learned during the Summer Camp. Thank you.
