Reflection on Summer Camp
STUDENTS |
Aleeza Lim Villanueva (14 y/o) I believe that the camp gave me a foundation to become a better person in the future. Experiences here were all great and equally delightful. (Top)
Angelica Ong (14 y/o) I learned that you should be harmonious and sincere with everyone around you and in the things and actions you do. I want to be compassionate and always be a vegetarian. Don’t kill animals because animals also have feelings like humans. (Top)
Ginea Rollon (12 y/o) I learned about Thankfulness. Today I will never forget all the things that happened in the lectures, etc. I will always remember all of these. (Top)
Ma. Cecilia De Luna (10 y/o) I learned to always respect my classmates and other people. (Top)
Michelle Sabalberino (11 y/o) Kung Fu is my number one activity because it makes me focus on what the teacher says so I could perfectly copy the poses. Perhaps, the intense focus will also help me in my studies and house chores. (Top)
Mikael Orlino (12 y/o) I learned that we should be good to others. The most memorable part was the chanting, because it is fun to learn! (Top)
Romerick Roque (12 y/o) I like tie-dyeing because it can help us recycle and save money. Tie-dyeing also helps us to become artistic because we use different colors to design our shirt. We learn to appreciate our own work and the work of others. (Top)
Ysabelle Orlino (13 y/o) My most memorable experience was learning how to be thankful to others because it is very important to be grateful to other people. (Top)
Zarah Dacillo Miranda (11 y/o) I learned how to meditate and be more focused. (Top)
PARENTS |
Raceli Domingo, (also an AT) The most important thing the children brought home was the lessons imparted and the precious booklet on the profound life of the Sixth Patriarch Great Zen Master Huineng. (Top)
Shiri Lim Villanueva (also an AT) I am proud that my child is a part of this wonderful activity. The children not only learned the wisdom of the Dharma, meditation, vegetarianism, but above all, they were taught to be morally upright young citizens of this country even at their young age. If all children experience this camp, I think the Philippines will be a better and more secure place for children to be in. (Top)
VOLUNTEERS |
Lolita Lutanco – Discipline Coordinator I realized I needed loads of patience to fulfill my duties as Discipline Coordinator. The Shifus and all volunteers worked so hard to ensure the success of the summer camp. I hope the Bodhi Stars went home with the virtues properly instilled in their young minds. (Top)
Joan Adrian Tabalanza – Assistant Teacher Leader After the closing program, children talked to several volunteers and expressed their joy and commitment to help out their parents and siblings in whatever way they can. Their gestures and laughter all indicated that the virtues of respect, compassion, harmony, sincerity, and thankfulness have been impressed upon them. The young ones have been truly transformed in this camp. (Top)
Andrea Tan – Teacher of Arts and Crafts This year’s summer camp was different for me since I wasn’t facing the kids anymore as an AT but as a teacher. It was a hard task getting everything together for my class and for the other classes. But at the end of the five days, I am grateful that I was a part of it one way or another. I wouldn’t ask for any better way to spend those few weeks of my summer. (Top)
Amanda Inoncillo – Assistant Teacher I greatly appreciated being able to chant for the first time the Sutra of the Profound Kindness of Parents because I learned how a mother cared for her child, and what a mother experienced during pregnancy. It made me become very appreciative and grateful to my mother. (Top)
Lualhati Abainza – Assistant Teacher While we are not perfect, we are learning to become a Buddha. What makes this camp perfect was the compassion that everyone involved in this activity embraced. I have learned so much and have left me with many things to think about after the Bodhi Star Summer Camp. (Top)
Franz Dacanay – Activity Group Volunteer Through my involvement in the camp, I realized what team work means and am able to develop deeper relationships in the community. (Top)
Josephine Cortes – Kitchen Volunteer It was an eye opener as direct involvement helped me gain more insight, awareness and information of the kids’ activities. In the process, I became closer to the children, learned from them and understood them more. (Top)
Melanie Francisco – Volunteer This year’s summer camp was truly an exhibit of the community’s immeasurable compassion and dedication to the values of Buddhism. It gave the opportunity for the Ocean Sky family to reach out to Filipino families and share with them its true essence. (Top)
Nancy Lee – Kitchen Volunteer It was a tremendous feat to cherish. In the end, I felt a different kind of joy that cannot be put into words. The camp was not an easy task but I found strength to overcome obstacles as my driving force is my refuge in the Three Jewels. (Top)
