Meditation has helped me calm my mind and see things in a better perspective. Though it is not easy to still the mind, it is the challenge one must endure.

Albert Tan
Attending classes, I learned about the Buddha Nature. I should remind myself to always stay on my self-nature. The biggest reward is being aware of the true self; only when one is aware of the true self can eradicate one’s own greed, anger and ignorance, so that the mind may be purified, and reach the state of Buddhahood. (TOP)

Alex Tee
I am more careful with what is in my mind now, especially with what I eat, desiring to go vegetarian. I am striving to be more mindful. I am thankful for the opportunity to practice meditation. (TOP)

I felt for a long time that I needed to find my place in the world and the way I was living was making me very unhappy. I was searching for meaning to everything. Once my mind was opened to Buddhism and spirituality I knew I had found the right path. Now I am learning about myself and how to live happier with less suffering. The change I would like to see in the world must start with me first. Amitofo! (TOP)

Anita Lo
From the first moment I stepped into Ocean Sky, I thought that it was unique compared to other temples. Because in other temples, one would just light a stick of incense, draw a divination lot, and leave, simply asking the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to resolve whatever issues there may be. Ocean Sky is different; for example, during the ceremonies, all recite the Sutras with utmost reverence and sincerity. What most set it apart are the Dharma talks that one cannot find in other places. (TOP)

Beatriz Monteza
The lessons helped me to go deeper into the history of Buddhism. The Abbess explained it in detail so that I may be able to assimilate the Dharma better and use it to deepen my inner life more. I am grateful for the privilege to listen to the Dharma. (TOP)

Betty Co
To come to attend the Saturday ceremony is already my routine schedule. I really appreciate the chanting ceremonies and listening to the Abbess’ Dharma talks, which guide us on our way of cultivation. (TOP)

I have been practicing Zen meditation since 2008. What I truly gained most from Zen meditation is more awareness and more focus in everything I do. Also, I have become more tolerant and more forgiving to other people. (TOP)

Celia Cacdac (傳雅)
After joining OSCM’s meditation class, I gained peace, compassion, more tolerance, better understanding about myself, and more mindfulness of my words and actions. Because of what I learned during OSCM’s meditation class, I now understand the true meaning of my existence. Now I know my real self and the purpose of my being. Amitofo! (TOP)

Unlike other people, who are introduced to Ocean Sky mainly by Chinese, I was invited by Edgar Vargas, who is a Filipino. Being curious why Edgar would mingle with the Chinese, I called up for directions. I learned a lot about meditation. (TOP)

Cesar Chua
I had been here in Ocean Sky for more than eight years; I mostly only attend Saturday ceremonies and listen to the Dharma talks. I can say the ceremonies here are most solemn and peaceful. (TOP)

I changed my way of thinking by learning to accept events and people in my life. I see them now as a natural part of my life and effects of causes I had in the past. I learned to "let go" of so many attachments and most importantly to keep silent and not to react instinctively. I have also become a more compassionate person. (TOP)

Christopher Val Vargas (傳佛)
I learned how to be empty, to remove my attachments, to understand my own true nature, to accept conditions as they are, and to practice "CHAN" at all times. Ocean Sky helped me to understand the reality of life. Amitofo! (TOP)

Consuelo De Luna (傳微)
I have learned to humble myself and to stop blaming others. Everything that happened in the past and everything that is happening in the present are just results of my own actions. I also learned that the past becomes part of our nature and the present is the nurturing part because it is only in the present where I can do or cultivate more good. (TOP)

Cristina D. Manejero
What I learned most is the right attitude and the right understanding on how to face each moment in one’s life. I also gained the knowledge of the teachings of Buddha. What changed me the most is the outlook I have in my life. By understanding impermanence, I learned to let go of all bad situations and not to be attached to them, therefore, preventing me from creating bad karma. (TOP)

Daniel Lim
Being able to read and listen to the stories about Venerable Wei Chueh changed me the most. I can now focus on work longer; maintain a positive emotional state despite problems and influence from other people’s emotions; and am able to redefine my purpose in life. (TOP)

The Dharma Masters at Ocean Sky are all very good to everyone, and treat all equally. They take special care of the elderly. The lay disciples all take care of each other, and for these past few years we’ve learned a lot from Ocean Sky. (TOP)

I used to worry a lot. Before, I used to dwell and waste time pondering about my and other people's mistakes, and wonder what could have been done or what may happen tomorrow or in the years to come. After joining Ocean Sky and learning to meditate, I have gained control of my mind and have learned to direct it to focus on the present. I am now able to accomplish tasks more efficiently. I have also become more introspective before acting or doing something. (TOP)

Dorotheo Delima
I learned that I have a long way to go from attaining peace of mind and how deluded I was. I’ve understood and learned the framework to calm the mind which is very helpful with the practice. I have become, in the process, more relaxed, less opinionated and more compassionate to others. (TOP)

Ed and Dori Soler
After almost 14 months of attending meditation and lecture classes (from beginners to advanced) at Ocean Sky Chan Monastery, we have learned to be better, more disciplined, patient and more caring persons. We are now aware of such things as not killing and eating sentient beings, and more importantly, we learned to follow the Dharma, the Buddhist scriptures, and the Four Tenets of Chung Tai. Thanks to the Shifus at Ocean Sky. (TOP)

Ellen Tan
During the course of the Zen classes, I have learned a lot of principles on how to handle people and situations properly. I am definitely going to remember the Buddha’s teachings. (TOP)

Emma Orozco
After joining OSCM, attending classes, ceremonies and in the Bodhi Youth class, I have come to understand the country can progress towards peace, development and right nationhood with integrity and honesty. I am amazed by the possibility to liberate individuals by the teachings of Buddha, by meditation and by right mindfulness and actions. I now vow to continue to deepen my understanding and absorption of the teachings of Buddha whereas before I used to be skeptical. (TOP)

Erlinda Campos
I gained faith despite circumstances because I have learned to depend on my mind and not on outside factors anymore. (TOP)

Fatima Abaya
The Eightfold Path and Five Precepts show me the concrete ways to free myself from worldly attachments, and that at the heart of these teachings is compassion. I like the idea that sharing one’s blessings is a form of not stealing. It teaches me to be content with what I have and to let go of greed and anger. I like the idea of choosing the right livelihood, which affirms my choice of work, where I can be of service to others. (TOP)

Flora Chan
Attending the classes, I received my biggest rewards: Before, I would accompany my elders to temples to worship the Buddha, but I didn’t know why we need to prostrate to the Buddha; I just followed what they did. But when I came to Ocean Sky, I slowly learned how and why we must prostrate to the Buddha. Another major change is that my temper has improved, and I am more patient. (TOP)

The Four Tenets are my guide, teaching me how to always cultivate, like a bright lighthouse illuminating the path. By always observing the teachings, our cultivation can be guided. A Buddhist disciple can thus deal with situations properly. The benefits are truly endless. (TOP)

Gwen Bianca P. Santos
After joining Ocean Sky Monastery's meditation class, I began to like meditation, listening to Dharma talks and learning a lot. Somehow, it helps me understand more about life and the things that happen around us. I also learned to be more patient. (TOP)

Helen Tang
Studying the Buddhist Sutras is my life's biggest joy and pursuit. I am so blessed to be able to attend the Beginners' Buddhism Class. What is most touching and profound is how Abbess Jianshu can use simple words to express such deep ideas in the sutras, and explains in detail; this makes it easy to learn and understand. It makes me see that the Buddha Dharma can also be found in worldly situations which everyone must study; everyone must stop all evil actions and practice all good ones, to increase all sentient beings' wisdom. (TOP)

It's been 10 years since the first Dharma Ceremony where I became a kitchen volunteer. I feel like I've changed a lot in Ocean Sky, such as improving my temper and being patient with others. My wisdom has also increased. Thanks to the Dharma Masters for their guidance! I wish for Ocean Sky a hundred more decades to come! (TOP)

Kwai -Fong Leung 梁桂芳(傳芳) When I started to learn Buddhism at Ocean Sky, it helped me to overcome the difficulties at home and work, knowing that all things shall come to pass. Coming to Ocean Sky makes my heart peaceful. External problems are put down. Even if my work limits the time I spent in Ocean Sky, I will always come to the monastery when I am available. (TOP)

Lawrence Lai
Silence is the absence of words, and it is at this moment of insight that we can have a glimpse of the nature of pure mind. Awareness is never passive, it is silent but of pure energy. It is expansive, neither rejecting nor labeling. The mind is like water on the lake, when it is still, it reflects the moon in absolute grandeur, when it has too many ripples or movements, it distorts the reflection of reality or actuality. (TOP)

Leli Tio
I joined the Bodhi Mind Tour for several times. It encouraged me to keep coming to the monastery to serve people. (TOP)

Lin Far Chua
Coming to Ocean Sky to take Zen meditation classes has given me a lot of benefits. I can now understand Buddhist truths and the principle of cause and effect; it makes me respect the Three Jewels and know how and why we memorize and recite sutras, as well as sit in meditation. Also, understanding the lessons can help one let go and make life happier, with each step forward becoming brighter. (TOP)

Lydia King
I can feel that it is so serene and peaceful here in Ocean Sky. Although I have to go to work, I will try my best to attend the ceremonies. I know that studying Buddhism can make the mind calm and clear. (TOP)

Lynette Lim
The biggest benefit I’ve gotten is knowing the purpose behind cultivation, prostrations, recitation and so on. The biggest change I gained from Ocean Sky is that I am no longer quick-tempered nor quibble with others over small details. Now I know how to let go. Taking the Four Tenets of Chung Tai as my anchor, I hope to improve everyday. (TOP)

Maila Eleuterio(傳覺)
For me going to OSCM to study is a way to cultivation, so I can learn about the Dharma and apply it in my daily activities, situations, and conditions. Amitofo! (TOP)

Margaret Sio (傳性)
When I came to Ocean Sky, I learned a lot of things about cause and effect. I changed my attitude towards life. (TOP)

Mari-Len Inoncillo (傳祐)
I have already been practicing Buddhism for more than three years, when Abbess asked me, “who are you”? I am so ashamed of myself because until now my answer is “I don’t know.” (TOP)

Marita Tan
Having come to Ocean Sky to attend Zen meditation classes, I have learned how to bring forth my awareness, and how to firmly follow Chung Tai's Four Tenets. Even though it is hard to avoid undesirable situations in daily life, I now know I must try to understand them, to contemplate and reflect, forgive others, and let go. Of course, I still have moments of stubbornness or anger, but at least I'm changing for the better. (TOP)

Marlyn Rañola(傳寧)
I learned how powerful the mind is. I gain mostly from the peaceful place - Ocean Sky Chan Monastery - where my mind can relax in the middle of a disturbing world. I also learned the importance of meditation which brings true relaxation of body and mind. I learn not to rely on my own mind because of the delusions I have. I learn how to rely on Triple Jewels in any situation I have. I learn to wait for my wishes to come true. I understand how my mind works and where my thoughts are coming from. (TOP)

Mary Tan
Cultivating in Ocean Sky, I now wish to take all of my past thoughts and mistakes and correct them, wishing to purify my mind. (TOP)

Melanie Franscisco
Being a volunteer in Ocean Sky is the most fulfilling because based on my experience, it is the most meaningful that I’ve had. It is not like the other places wherein you do your work, pack up and leave. In Ocean Sky, being a volunteer builds positive character and strengthens the bonds of team work. I encourage everyone to become part of the Ocean Sky family. (TOP)

Miguel Sotingco
The biggest benefit for me is knowing how everything in life is the effect of causes. One should always learn from the Buddha, one should always refrain from wrongdoing. The biggest change was learning how to let go. (TOP)

Mika de Guzman
I view things more differently compared to before I joined the class. However, there is still a very long way to go. What changed me the most were the sharing of insights, discussions and views given by the Dharma Masters as well as my classmates. (TOP)

Nadine Ellise Reyes
It gives me deeper understanding of the world, which will help me more in my future endeavors. Through meditation, I can visualize my present, past and future. It makes me pursue more to make a difference in my country, not just here but in the world, it is the perfect way also to understand and love oneself. (TOP)

Natividad Gopiao(傳提)
Through the classes I attended, I came to a better understanding of life. I became more compassionate and kind, and found myself giving and extending more help to those who are in need. I have been volunteering to clean the monastery and am filled with Dharma joy. Every Buddha in the altar seems to always be looking and smiling at me, as I learned to let go of delusions, heartaches, and painful memories that I have encountered in my life in the past. (TOP)

Nelson Tan
Ocean Sky Chan Monastery teaches us the truth and wisdom of the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. A genuine wisdom that liberates our minds from all misapprehensions and delusions, towards tranquility and harmony. My son and I express our heartfelt gratitude to the Abbess and to all the Shifus of Ocean Sky Chan Monastery who generously shares the truth and wisdom of the teachings of the Fundamental Teacher Shakyamuni Buddha. Amitofo! (TOP)

Priscilla Ng
After coming to the monastery to study Buddhism, I no longer go out to do KTV, and my temper has improved. (TOP)

Rizal I. Santos
I gained more tolerance. My tolerance to all situations, no matter how nasty and intolerable, expanded even more. (TOP)

Rosalinda Tang
I feel happy when I am in Ocean Sky. I like the chanting in the ceremonies because it is very solemn. (TOP)

Sau Ha Sotingco
Having studied and recited more Buddhist sutras in Ocean Sky, I am now more determined to learn from Buddha. I love sitting meditation and would wish to learn more. (TOP)

Shirley Cheng
I love listening to the Dharma Master’s stories. Coming to Ocean Sky, the biggest reward is to understand the essence of Buddha’s teaching, understanding how to cultivate, let go and accept things. I only now know that the most precious thing in this world is my true mind. (TOP)

Susan Cokeng
It’s interesting to attend the classes. I enjoy the Abbess’ stories. Sometimes classes go overtime, but it's well worth it! I think that telling true stories is really good, because this can show each one his own area of improvement. Because there are discussions in class, and there are light moments of laughter, people don't get sleepy! (TOP)

Veronica Dacillo
The class went beyond my expectations. I was only hoping to study how to meditate but the theoretical classes drew me in more because of the "noble" worldview Buddhism offers. Causality and karma struck me the most. I am now more conscious of my actions towards others. (TOP)

Veronica Encarnacion
The classes made me realize that there are things that I still need to learn and understand. Therefore, I still need to ponder on things and I will keep on practicing meditation at home. (TOP)

Victor Suarez (傳懺)
I obtained a better knowledge of cause and effect (karma) so I don’t presume I will be rewarded automatically by rebirth to a higher realm just by saying or believing in something. At present, I am more mindful of the time that goes by (mindfulness of death) and of impermanence. I have more peace of mind and more tolerance by thinking about “no-self”—no false ego. I learned some mantras like “OM MANI PADME HUM," etc. (TOP)

Virgilio Blas
I am now beginning to learn about Buddhism and meditation. I had learned a lot on how to have peace of mind and eradicate anger. I have learned to respect people (younger or older) and apply it to my daily life. (TOP)

Willy Luna
I understand that Sutra Studies show us the right way a life should be lived. The lessons helped me recall the importance of being compassionate and giving alms to the poor, because doing so can result in a better next life. (TOP)

Yvonne Chua (傳本)
The advance class gives so much insight into the Six Paramitas and to the reality of our true nature. These lessons have changed my view and practice to perfect charity and tolerance. Buddhist teachings serve as my guide in all my undertakings, I would always think twice before doing or saying anything. Our mind is like a sponge, absorbing all the lectures and stories that our Abbess shared with us every week. (TOP)
